EuroGT I: Introduction

Submitted by Sir Tachyon on 13 October, 2007 - 17:03.

At 10, 11 and 12 March 2000, it finally happened... The long awaited EuroGT 2000 took place. The odd 50 Warhammer and Mordheim fanatics traveled from all over Europe to meet each other, often for the first time in life. 'Friends' they had been mailing with for years now stood in front of each other. Ready to take on anybody in a friendly tourney, that would take all weekend.

At the great location of the Golden Tulip Hotel at Bergen op Zoom, the complete basement section had gone wild with wargaming fanatics. Everywhere you looked, tables were filled with miniatures and surrounded by players. The Bar, quickly renamed into "The Twisted Goat" (a heritage of the Mordheim mailinglist) was filled with people talking, painting and modeling, to get their armies finished in time.

All throughout the weekend the atmosphere was excellent. The Empire Teams tourney flabbergasted every single contestant, as it was something they had never done. Being teamed up with 3-4 other players, trying to conquer a realm the team could call their own... In the back, others were working up a sweat with the Warmaster-stand speedpainting contest, while in the other room, the warbands and their players fought it out against each other to claim the biggest load of Wyrdstone for the Mordheim Tourney.

We, the Dutch Tourney Committee (DTC), had hoped this event to become a great success, since we started organizing it at the end of 1999. But we had never dreamed that it would be something like this. From this page, we would like to thank anybody who in the furthest reaches had taken part in this event from the bottoms of our hearts, we couldn't have done it without you! The players, the Marshals, the Gofers, Our sponsors, the Hotel, the Bartenders (thanks a lot! :) anyone!
